Allowing for the usual bunch of things I forgot to log I appear to have read 125 book-like things in the past year. Electric things are up again as I finally cracked and started getting ebooks from Amazon. Still prefer an actual book where possible, but the 99p offers tend to attract. Last year I managed 138 books containing something like 50,000 pages, this years 125 only held around 40K.

Half a dozen overlaps with Mr Escargot, plus a couple more in common still languishing in my TBR stack.

After reviving my Goodreads account at Gedvondurs suggestion I set a goal of 150 for the year, at midnight last night the count was 138 containing 52,776 pages. On top of this are a number of shorter works from the Hugo voters pack (Which also meant I read the first third of Neptune's Brood and Parasite twice) plus the usual magazines.

Looks like I was for much of the year. 196 books read according to my log, although there are a few more items (eg Equoid by Charles Stross and the original collection of Metrozone short stories from Simon Morden) not recorded that add up to tip me over the 200 mark.

Print Story The read in 2013 list
Books

167 books read in the year which is up from last year but down on 2010. Missing are a bunch of shorter works by John Scalzi which I got in ebook form, most of the components had their own ISBNs and so did the bundle but they didn't show up in the usual sources and I forgot to look again later.

Feels like a bit more urban fantasy than usual, otherwise the usual mix of that and science fiction with a handful of oddities thrown in, and a diversion into ancient Rome during the autumn with Simon Scarrows Eagle series and Robert Graves two Claudius books.

Still haven't sorted out adding ratings or reviews. One day... :-)

Print Story You've read *how* many?

Apparently I title these diaries "Wot I read in X" in even numbered years and as something else in odd. As this one is for 2011...

143 books read in 2011 according to my log, only one repeat (New Model Army by Adam Roberts) that I've spotted and no obvious gaps where I missed something. Mostly SF as ever with the usual trips through early mediaeval times with some text books, the Napoleonic era Royal Navy with Hornblower (which I've actually got in omnibus form so push the total up a bit) and slightly alternate Victorian times with Flashman. Ah, and Roman architecture thanks to the Channel 4 series Rome Wasn't Built In A Day which is well worth a watch.

On with the amazing page lengthening list, which if nothing else will remove the word "Boobies" from the top of the RSS feed...

Print Story Wot I read in 2010
189 books read, 21 repeats though and I seem to have gone through the last Harry Dresden Changes three times which may or may not be a recommendation. The Cressida Cowell "How to..." books aren't exactly heavyweight either.

Several Colditz books following the rerun of the BBC series on "Yesterday" with one more (Reinhold Eggers book from the German viewpoint) waiting for Amazon to get stock, and Pillars of the Earth and World Without End from the TV version of PotE, otherwise no special trigger events. Some series got reread from the top when a new volume came out, and a handful were ebooks, mostly from Baen free CDs which I'll generally buy when the paperback comes out.

On with the amazing page-lengthening list...

Print Story It's the end of another reading year

I've done more on my booklog, but not hooked the Web 2.0 stuff in properly yet or done much that's visible so this years reading list gets dumped here following popular request last year.

It's a bit early but as I'm not going to finish Barrayar in the next 45 minutes my track record for the year stands at 154 books with the usual mix of mostly new and classic SF, history and historical fiction (some even at the same time with Defoe's Journal of the Plague Year and The Storm putting in an appearance) and the occasional vampire, wizard and serial killer. Some selections due to Mr Escargot and others who keep up a running commentary, others from Amazon recommendations which seem to have clogged up with vampires and fantasy. The Hypatia recommender at AlexLit appears to be on an extended holiday but is expecting to be back in 2008...

Not sure what happened in May, I had "Stuff" happening at the time but I find it hard to believe I went for 3 weeks with only two short books and a fortnight (The CSS book didn't take that long) with nothing. I suspect there should be a couple more in there that I forgot to log.

Anyway, in best page lengthening form...

This year with no amazing page lengthening list as I've been trying to expand the book log code into something more generally useable. Also people complained about it last year.
